New album and tour for ORIGINAL DOKKEN LINE UP...
at least until Don and George start getting into it again.....
On Sunday, February 21, guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, SOULS OF WE, DOKKEN) was interviewed by host Jim Alvino on the "Turn It Up" show on the WSCA 106.1 FM radio station. Topics of discussion included new albums by SOULS OF WE and LYNCH MOB; songwriting; recording with other artists; and LYNCH MOB's November 2009 West Coast shows as the support act for DOKKEN. During the chat, Lynch also revealed that he has been writing songs for a new DOKKEN album with the band's classic 1980s lineup.
An excerpt from the interview follows below.
Turn It Up: The shows that you did at the end of last year, with LYNCH MOB opening for DOKKEN, and at the end the classic lineup of DOKKEN playing together again, has that now blown up into that lineup working together again?
George Lynch: "Yes, actually it has. And that's something that isn't gonna happen for a little while. We all have our respective commitments, meaning Jeff, Mick, Don and myself are all real busy this year doing other things. But we've all made a commitment to each other to dedicate ourselves to getting back together. We've already got three songs on the table and we're gonna continue to write throughout the year and put the whole business together and probably go in the studio late fall or early winter of this year and then have a record out toward late spring of next year, and then hit the road."

And I DON'T CARE IF IT SOUNDS "DATED" but I want it to sound like "Tooth and Nail" or "Under Lock & Key" and NOT like "Dysfunctional" or "Shadowlife"....

I preferred Under Lock And Key over Tooth And Nail
The only other Dokken album I checked out entirely is Lightning Strikes Again (2008 (?))
I really liked Lightning Strikes Again and I enjoyed listening to it, but retrospectively, the singing sounds very melancholic (emo style) which I think is the biggest flaw in the cd. I prefer the lively Dokken of the 80's with lyrics about kicking ass and living in the fast lane... so yeah, although I don't have as much Dokken experience as you, I think I agree.
The only song entirely composed by Don Dokken on the latest Dokken album was really weak too and it really had that emo vibe to it, so I'm guessing Don is the one making the music take this direction. Hopefully Don will be on cocaine when he writes the next Dokken lyrics... that should breathe some life into his vocal lines.

For Immediate Release:
DISCLAIMER — Legendary Guitarist George Lynch (Lynch Mob, Souls of We) is in Damage Control mode these days and wants to retract any of his earlier statements concerning the band “Dokken” and referencing about them getting back together w/ all original members… Mr. Scary apologizes for being preemptive and just simply misspoke in his excitement. “We are TALKING about a possible reunion for 2011, but it’s still in early stages!” George says.

Great band.
But they always get back together, do an album (not a good one for more than 19 years!) and fight in the middle of the tour...
Hope this time is different.

A year or so ago I got into a big argument with a member who had just signed up, about the fact that the star of Dokken was NEVER actually Don Dokken. I stated then (and still believe) that Dokken was probably the only band that uses the last name of one of its members where this is the case (and I cited a whole bunch of examples to prove my point). I ended up pissing the guy off so bad that he left and never came back (his problem, not mine. I was being totally civil. He just couldn’t handle the fact that myself and a few other members were making some really sound points that he didn’t agree with).
Being a HUGE Dokken fan back in the 80's and having seen them many times back in the day, AND having been surrounded by tons of like minded guys and girls who felt the same way about them as me, I can tell you that the guys were mostly into George Lynch, the girls were mostly into Jeff, followed by George, followed by Mick. I can’t think of one instance where I came into contact with anyone (guy or girl) who was really into Don (and pretty much everyone I knew back then liked Dokken)
Don’s voice was good for Dokken’s music (obviously) which helped to create that unique Dokken sound (yes believe it or not they did have a unique sound and believe it or not it was often imitated). But as a hard rock/heavy metal singer in general he just kind of lacked something (IMO). This is really evident during the song “Stars” which was recorded by Hear 'n Aid (for those who don’t know or remember, Hear 'n Aid was the heavy metal version of USA for Africa). You hear the singing of Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Tate, Rob Halford, etc who have these monstrous, powerful, booming, gigantic, skull crushing voices, and then in the middle of it all you suddenly hear the thin and pretty voice of Don that just kind of lays there. It stuck out like a sore thumb (again IMO).
Even now the news that we are reacting to is the fact that George is coming back to Dokken (ok Jeff and Mick are too, but lets get serious the big news is about George). Dokken never broke up and has been around all these years (sans George) and with the exception of the time that Jeff Martin drummed for Dokken, no one has really cared (for the most part). But now we do, which to me proves my point even more that Dokken was never really about Don.
Again…just my opinon.

Best post you did in some time LoQ. I agree with every single point, and I do believe that yes, Don's voice is something special, and it makes the band sound like noone else, but his technique and range in general is just horrible. I myself always liked Dokken pretty much for Georges soloing and riffing.

I liked Don's voice in the 80's.
It's not the most groundbreaking voice I have ever heard but it fit the style of the band.
Today I don't like his lyrics, and his voice suffers a lot too.

With the exception of George using a wah pedal and Don’s slightly haggard voice (which really can’t be avoided as one gets older), it pretty much sounds like classic Dokken.
Just goes to show, regardless of how much those two might dislike each other, you just can’t beat musical chemistry.

Pretty sure that's not George.

After doing a bit of research I see that you are right. It's Jon Levin.
Open mouth...insert foot!

Uhh..
Dokken already reformed once. I haven't listened to either studio reunion album in over a decade. Not really looking forward to a new one.
Best thing George ever did was leave Don and his weave far behind.
