 Jazz III
I just hooked myself up on Jazz III picks, after playing with various types of picks because im Too lazy and just grabbed a handful at the store a few times, I figured I'd pursue a wise but very (picky) decision (^_^)
I gotta say, I like them, even though it's a bit small, I like the attack they're givin. So I guess this thread, just so it's not pointless Is my way of saying, if you haven't tried them, DO IT.

 Re: Jazz III
Ok, yes. You're on the right track with Jazz III's in my opinion. I've been using them for a good 4 years now and I honestly can't see myself changing picks (atleast the shape and sharpness) any time soon. Now there are a load of different types of Jazz III picks as I'm sure most people are aware of, and after trying out the regular nylon ones and finding that they usually slip out of my hand and I lose my grip most of the time, I tried the Tortex Jazz III's which were really good for the grip, but the tip wore down pretty easily. I've found my favorite pick at the moment, and that is the Jazz III Ultex. Things are amazing and I can't live, or leave home, without em. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a sharper pick attack and a great grip. The Jazz III XL's are at a close second behind the Ultex in my opinion. Boy would I like to try a Jazz III Ultex XL haha.
There's my rant about Jazz III's. They're not for everyone, but the people I know who use them could never go back.

 Re: Jazz III
I know Jazz IIIs are the shit for solo stuff, but how do they work out for rhythm stuff? i feel like their size would make them difficult for heavy strumming type of stuff.

 Re: Jazz III
I see your point, and you're right, there is a bit of adjustment you need to make in holding the pick when strumming. It's not too big of a deal though, whatever works for the player is what works. This can be fixed by not playing chords all the time and riffing instead

 Re: Jazz III
Jazz III = the best
I'd have to agree with the whole rhythmic playing thing. It bothered me for a while, but I got used to it!
FYI, there are Jazz III XLs. They're basically bigger Jazz III picks.

 Re: Jazz III
I've got one of each in front of me and I can use them both for rhythm and leads, and I play Children Of Bodom stuff, so it's not slow.
It just depends what my fingers are used to, sometimes the regular is too small so I use the XL but then I'll pick up the regular and just start playing and then the XL will feel too big.
But either way, the tone you get from these picks is unbeatable.

 Re: Jazz III
Remember. There IS a difference between the red & black Jazz IIIs. The black ones wear down faster for some reason. The red ones are the shit. I used them for many years. I have since moved on & now use my custom Steve Clayton 1mm acetal picks. They don't warp & don't slip.

 Re: Jazz III
Shawn Lane only used those picks for his crazy and really fast stuff. so those picks can be use for shred stuff.

 Re: Jazz III
Call me crazy, but I tried them five or six years ago, used them briefly, then went back to the standard-sized ones. They did make fast playing easier, but I guess I liked the resistance from the standard ones, and I like to dig in more than they allow sometimes. I do wear out the normal ones quicker though (which are 1mm Dunlops for me).

 Re: Jazz III
Hmm, I like the Dunlop Delrin 1.14 mm I'm using now (it's pink!) but it does wear out way too fast (i actually started to sharpen them again because I can't afford buying loads of picks ). Maybe it's time to try something new =o

 Re: Jazz III
What color do you guys use?
I use the red one. The black one gets worn out faster and gets lost easier when you drop it (lol) but it's easier to grip.

 Re: Jazz III
I've been using the Jazz IIIs for a few years now (black), and love the tip when it comes to picking. I'm not much of a shredder, but I still find them awesome for rhythm guitar. I'm now using the Jazz III XLs. They are awesome, same great tip for tight picking, and plenty of mass to hang on to when hammering out big rhythm parts.

The black ones are good too, but red has a little less resistance/slipperier, thus making it easier for me to pick to the next string, i.e. arpeggios & stuff. And they're easier to find when dropped, unless your carpet's red.
