If I was there, I´d go.
Great chance to make fun of yourself in front of god.

I got my confirmation today, and I don't have plane tickets out there because I don't have the hotel, etc. eek. I know I should feel all celebratory - w00t I'm on the VIP list! - but if I don't start walking right now, I'll never be in Los Angeles by mid-January.
le sigh. *continues to work on the hotel issue*
(half of me is super happy, and the other half is really upset!)
edit: At least I have one really good mini-cassette recorder and at least 2 tapes. It's a start. :)
So, the first round of confirmations went out tonight. Anyone else get theirs?

Aaw, don't be jealous, NicolaiF!
Paul had VIP sessions there in Oslo in 2008, at Smuget. You Norwegians got some of the first ever VIP's. It is you who are equally lucky. :)

You guys will love it, i think $300 is way worth it, the euro tickets were cheap really, i think Paul realised he undersold himself.At the london guitar show Steve Vai did a class with 150 students per class for 2 days, he made £27,000 for those two days, so $300 for 6 people is awesome.Signings etc wil defo be after the playing.
Paul is a great guy, remember to speak up though when asking questions his partial deafness is very apparent when you talk to him.
Even if you don't have to eat for a month try and get yourselves there, every day when playing my guitar i see the photo of me stood next to Paul, and still can't believe i met him.

I agree. I had a sore throat at my VIP, so my voice was almost gone. I had to repeat myself to him all the time.

teddygorm: Ah so the Typhoid Mary from 2008 has been found! My best guess is that someone was ill in/around Svendborg. I wondered who started the whole tour cold thing off... ;)
(I'm just playing with ya)
Those VIP's were all backstage / frontstage and not in the quietest of places. There were a couple that were downright noisy - people screaming, Jeff soundchecking, doors being slammed, etc. during VIP. I'm thinking this studio room will be much better soundproofed, or at least it will be much more favorable to Paul -- you guys probably won't have to raise your voices so much.
Me, on the other hand... he's said he has some more trouble hearing women's voices, so I'm going to type all my questions on to paper. If things are too difficult (I'll feel terrible about it!) I'll just be able to hand him the paper. It will also keep me from digressing too much off my questions, as I am wont to do... ;)

A lady-friend of mine offered to pay for my ticket and use their frequent flier miles to fly me out for the VIP lessons. Not sure I should do it.. I'm not big on accepting gifts. And I have a feeling I would just be embarassing myself on the guitar..

Dude grab your chance. You could always repay her later in some other way. It will pretty much be a once in a lifetime experience.

Man, I've been in such a rut on the guitar that I doubt 6 months of lessons from Paul could pull me out of it.. And I kinda suck, anyway. At least by the standards of the people on this forum..

Sucking on guitar is not an excuse to skip.
I'm bad at guitar by anyone's standards. I bet I could make dogs howl with lousy note choice... (wait, there's a choice? You can play more then 1 string?) ;)
You should go, GTRMAN. Totally! Paul won't berate you and neither will your peers. This is a learning environment. It will enrich you. Even if you think you sound horrible at VIP (nobody else is going to care), a couple weeks later when the lessons really sink in, you'll be very happy you went.
Take the opportunity, and repay your friend now/later. Or bring them along and enjoy a little L.A vacation.
** humor **
Valid excuses for skipping:
* could not get time off work, only applies to Monday participants or those who work weekends
* could not get there, only applies to out of state/out of country residents
* ill or otherwise immobilized
* way too broke
* positions were all filled and backup list was not used, i.e. person applied too late
"The dog / United Airlines / my ex / etc. ate my guitar" will not fly. ;)

In the VIP I could attend to past year, some guys (me included) were not good guitar players. Even one of them didn´t dare to play in the jam.
You go to the VIP to learn so I think no level is required. Just enjoy it

guitartech from Twitter is going on the 17th. I don't know if that person is a member here or not. Their location says Los Angeles.
edit: Invited. His name is Aaron Kronis.
